Former IAEA Head To Issue Memoir in 2011

Mohamed ElBaradei intends in an upcoming memoir to chronicle his 12-year term as director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Associated Press reported yesterday (see GSN, Nov. 30, 2009).

The book, to be titled "Crawling Away from Armageddon," is set to be released in 2011 and is expected to address the hunt for Iraqi weapons of mass destruction and ElBaradei's perceptions of top Bush administration officials such as former Vice President Dick Cheney and former Secretary of State Colin Powell.

ElBaradei disputed U.S. assertions that prewar Iraq was covertly working on nuclear weapons and dealt with the nuclear activities of Iran and North Korea. In 2005, the U.N. nuclear agency and ElBaradei jointly won the Nobel Peace Prize.

He left the agency last year, replaced by Japanese diplomat Yukiya Amano (Associated Press/GoogleNews, March 16).
