Peruvian security officials are preparing WMD detection and response equipment to be used at this weekend's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Lima, the Xinhua News Agency reported (see GSN, Aug. 21).
The meeting is expected to feature leaders from 19 nations including Chinese President Hu Jintao, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and U.S. President George W. Bush.
Nearly 100,000 security workers have been ordered to protect the summit participants, and police and fire officials have been assigned responsibility for preventing chemical, biological or nuclear attacks (Xinhua News Agency, Nov. 19).
